Squat and gobble

We stopped in for a late lunch at Squat and Gobble. squat and gobble

The restaurant is Easily accessible from the 71 and other lines running down haight. we enjoyed our food, the environment, and will be back again.

we started by hiking up to buena vista park from Castro and market where we arrived via muni. The hike was steep! We were rewarded with fantastic views of Cole valley and haight ashbury. We headed down toward haight and found a wonderful pocket childrens playground. Riding on the 71 up and down haight we thought buena vista was a small park. Boy, were we wrong. Reminiscent of the switchbacks at the top of kaibab trail in the grand canyon, the park provides an invigorating walk.

When we crested buena vista, headed on down to haight, suffice it to say that those amongst us who weren’t initially hungry were now famished. Squat and gobble was a great spot to land.

Entering from the street we were welcomed with a light, bright main room with seating along the windows on the street, tables down the right and a fun outdoor patio toward the rear. Orders are given deli style to a friendly though somewhat dour lady. The menu is written in chalk in huge chalkboards hung from the ceiling. Gnutella crepes come in many fruitful variations. One dish we tried was the strawberry gnutella crepe. The dish was very generous with lots of strawberries, gnutella and whipped Verne. A tad “messy,” the overall presentation was inviting. The portions were large. The crepe itself was very good. A tad less gnutella may have be requested next time because after a few bites the dish was swimming in hazelnut spread.

We also had the portobello sandwich. As the mushroom aficionado in our group was sharing 0, I take it on good authority the dish was awesome. I can attest that it consisted of several layers of mushroom. Even though it was a very large helping, no to go boxes were needed for that order 🙂

Yours truly enjoyed a three egg omelet with cheddar cheese. It was accompanied by wonderful sourdough toast and pan blackened potatoe slices with lots of Rosemary and thyme. The egg creation was light and airy with just the right amount of cheese.

The runners/ pseudo wait staff were very cheerful and pleasant to talk with. Coffee refills and water can be ordered from the runners, but you get your coffee when placing your order.

We sat by the window and enjoyed watching people walk by. The food was fantastic, the Location was fun and the people were enjoyable.

We’ll be back soon!
